Over the years, the Chinese diaspora of Vancouver, Canada, has grown exponentially. Whether families are leaving their homeland because of work, turmoil, or just wanting a different life, the Chinese have grown to nearly 30% of Vancouver’s population. Most are seeking an affluent lifestyle where wealth and status are at the forefront. Many Chinese in the area identify as Christian, but there are still many who do not believe. With a growing population and slow infrastructure, it is hard to plant churches, especially if one requires a building. Most church buildings house three or more churches because of the lack of real estate. Parents are open more now than ever to hearing the gospel and learning how to reach their kids. Since most of the parents are first-generation Chinese, the Chinese Canadian children have a western mindset, creating large cultural gaps between generations. The Chinese in Vancouver have the opportunity not only to bring their families to Christ, but also to return to China as missionaries through trainings and strategic partnerships with missionaries. Pray for the salvation of the Chinese of western Canada.
