Crimean Tatars of Central Asia

(cry-MEE-un tuh-TARS) – On May 26-30, Crimean Tatars will celebrate Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son to show his devotion to Allah. Those who can afford it will slaughter a lamb and share the meat with family, friends, and the poor. They will spend three days visiting in each other’s homes and honoring older members of the family. Families separated due to the war between Russia and Ukraine will feel that distance especially on this important holiday. Increasing internet restrictions in Crimea are making it very difficult for families to communicate with one another even by texting. Please pray for these hurting families. Pray for an end to the war. Pray that during this Islamic holiday celebration, God will lead believers to share with Crimean Tatars the true meaning of the story they celebrate — that Jesus Himself would be the ultimate sacrifice, dying in our place so that we might live forever with Him.
