(deh-KAH-nee) – Pray for the Kaghzi Muslims, who have a population of 75,500. There exists a network of churches taking the gospel to anyone calling themselves “Muslim” in the Kaghzi’s geographical area, but there are no known Kaghzi believers or churches. Since they no longer use “Kaghzi” as a surname, it has been difficult to identify them. The Kaghzi name is derived from the historic occupation of paper manufacturing. The word “paper” in the Hindi and Urdu languages is “kaghaz.” The Kaghzi are identified by the Indian government as Other Backward Caste (OBC) people, which is those who are disadvantaged educationally and socially. Like the majority of Muslims in India, they very much follow the mystical worldview of folk Islam. Their ancient heritage claims Central Asian descent. Contemporary Kaghzi have close interactions with other Muslim peoples, although they retain marriage only among their own. Pray for God to send harvest laborers to the Kaghzi so that He may bring salvation to a great multitude among them so that they, too, may rejoice in God, their Savior!
