Highland People of the Horn of Africa

In June, the Highland People will celebrate a Muslim holiday that remembers Abraham’s obedience to offer his son (whom they believe to be Ishmael) as a sacrifice. The men will slaughter a sheep or goat, and many people will write the names of their family members on a small piece of paper or on their hand and ask Allah to forgive their family’s sins as the animal dies. They are taught that Abraham’s obedience is the only point of the story. However, believers among the Highland People know the true story of Abraham and that God’s provision of the ram for the sacrifice points forward to Jesus as the final sacrifice for our sin. Pray that many will see and engage with ads that will be running during this time that will challenge people to wrestle with questions about obedience and sacrifice. Ask that many Highland People will understand that Jesus is the Lamb of God and the only door to salvation. Pray for believers to share the story of Abraham boldly with their friends and neighbors as they help slaughter the animals or prepare the food that they will share with one another.
