It is rainy season (Tsuyu) in Japan, which runs from early June to mid-July. Rain falls frequently, though not all day, and high humidity sets in. Umbrellas are carried everywhere. While Westerners often see a season of rain as an interruption, Japanese people view the rainy season as a shared experience. Missionaries write, “Father, when the skies weep, help us to remember that Jesus is the Light that can never be extinguished. We want to reflect the Light of the World. Heavy rains trigger landslides and anxiety in Japan. Lord, protect Japanese communities, guard their lives, steady their hearts and be present. Rain nourishes that which cannot yet be seen. Thank you! We ask that the seeds of the gospel that have been planted will bear abundant fruit.”
