Libyan Arabs of Libya and Northern Africa

(LIH-bee-un) – “Whoo-hoo!” “No school for two weeks!” “I can’t wait to play and hang out with friends all day.” “It’ll be so nice to get a break.” These are just some of the cries heard as children leave school on that final afternoon in mid-December. But for Libyan Arab children, there are no such cries. There is no winter break from school. In fact, school didn’t start this year until late in September. There are general ideas of when school should start and when breaks should be, but they are ever-changing as new decision-makers take charge intermittently, teachers cannot be found, or fighting prevents safe travel to and from school. Whereas many children around the world enjoy the consistency of relatively stable schedules, inconsistency is the constant for most living in that war-torn land. As life shows Libyan Arabs constant reminders that things around them are unstable and a reliable routine is out of reach, pray that they will seek the One who is always stable regardless of their circumstances. Pray for the children to hear and come to know the One who can quiet the storms around them.
