(mon-GOHL-yun) – Mongolians mark the arrival of spring after the Lunar New Year, which ended this year on February 20. In many countries, spring brings warmer weather, budding trees and colorful flowers. In Mongolia, this season brings strong winds, dust storms, unpredictable temperatures and sometimes sudden, devastating snowstorms. Because spring is when livestock give birth, the harsh weather is especially dangerous for newborn animals and the goats that have recently been combed for cashmere. The unpredictable weather can continue through May and sometimes into June, creating great hardship for nomadic herders. During this challenging season, ask God, the Creator of all, to show mercy to His creation and to stir in the hearts of Mongolians a desire to know Him, the one and only Creator God.
