Ngoni of Tanzania

(n-GO-knee) – The months of June, July, and August are the winter months in the Southern Hemisphere. Throughout much of Tanzania, there’s a noticeable decrease in daytime temperatures at this time of year, and even more so at night. The rains cease and the earth begins to dry out, which causes matured crops to dry. It’s harvest time! Staple food crops such as corn, beans, rice, millet, and others must be completely dry at harvest time so they can be stored and slowly consumed by the family over the next several months. One day, Jesus gave His disciples a new perspective on the readiness of a crop for harvest time. He redirected their thinking of the not-yet-ready timetable for harvesting food crops to the ready-for-harvest-today timetable for a spiritual harvest of people all around them. “Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest” (John 4:35). Today is harvest time among the Ngoni! Pray for the Lord’s people to continue preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ among the Ngoni at all times, and ask the Lord to bring forth a great harvest of those who will receive that message and believe in Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
