Northern African and Middle Eastern Unengaged Peoples

South of Turkey, in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, lies the beautiful island country of Cyprus. The world’s population of 11,000 Cypriot Arabs are found primarily on the island of Cyprus. They are sometimes referred to as Maronites and have a culture and Arabic language unique to their origins on the island. Although many Cypriots are Muslim, the Cypriot Arabs follow Roman Catholicism and the Catholic Church’s traditions. Many believe that their good works and human efforts will prove their faith and is a way to earn salvation. In this season of celebrating Easter, Jesus’ Ascension, and Pentecost, pray that the Cypriot Arabs will see Jesus’ death and resurrection in a new light. May they die to sin and become alive in Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit. Ask for them to see that they’ve been set free from sin through Jesus and are no longer “under law but under grace” (Romans 6:14 ESV). Pray that they will believe that “the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23 ESV) and be transformed by the power of God.
