(POSH-toons) – The small, paved yard was covered by thin cushions sat upon by dozens of women and a few children. Normally, there’d be a buzz of talk and laughter, but all was quiet, and the women greeted each other in soft, somber tones. They were all there to give condolences to the family of a man who’d died suddenly. Many counted date pits contained on large platters and repeated prayers for the deceased for each pit they counted. Many crowded around his widow, a generous, hospitable middle-aged woman, to weep with her and comfort her. The man who died was Haley’s father. Haley was barren for 15 years. Then, four years ago, her husband took a second wife and divorced Haley while she was unaware that she was pregnant with his son. She and her son have since been provided for and protected by her father. No one knows what will happen to her now that her father is gone. Please lift up Haley and women like her who live in the reality of such grief and uncertainty. May they learn to know a Heavenly Father who dearly loves them and cares deeply for their souls in a way that no earthly father ever could.
