The Central Plains of Thailand, outside metro Bangkok, is a region of 14 provinces and almost 9 million people. The area is the heart of Thailand culture, history, and religion. The dominant belief system is Theravada Buddhism, which strongly shapes daily life, community events, and cultural traditions, and is often blended with animist practices such as respect for local spirits and ancestral beliefs. Fewer than 1% of people are Christian. There are only 10 Thai Baptist churches in the Central Plains area, and several provinces don’t have a single Thai Baptist church. Most people earn their living through agriculture, along with small businesses, local trade, and factory work in nearby industrial zones.
