(BOH-lee-kahm-sy; KAHM-moo-ahn) – The area in the central region of Laos is dominated by highlands and mountains. Numerous minority people groups — each with its own language and culture — live in geographically isolated villages in the provinces of Bolikhamxay and Khammouane, sustaining themselves through slash-and-burn agriculture and the gathering of forest products. Beneath their modest smiles lies a deep fear of unseen spirits. Many practice animism and ancestor worship, while others follow a blend of Buddhism and spirit veneration woven into their traditional way of life. Though their lives appear simple and peaceful, many remain bound by spiritual anxiety and the constant need to appease unseen powers. A few minority people groups have embraced the gospel and found freedom and hope in Christ, but countless others still await the moment when His message pierces the forest canopy and reaches their villages, bringing lasting freedom, new life, and eternal hope.
