(beng-AHL) – On an island of 200,000-300,000 people in a large river delta, there’s only one church. This church has about 30 families, although only 20-30 people regularly attend worship services. A woman comes once a month to share the Bible while a man leads the services the other weeks each month. There is one partial Bible in the church containing most of both the Old and New Testaments, although several members have a New Testament of their own. There have been no new believers for 50 years since the church started. This is typical of the churches that harvest workers Quinton and Molly find on these islands. Often, neither the leaders nor the believers know how to study the Bible. Many cannot look up passages in the Bible if they have one; 30%-60% cannot read; a pastor may come only once a month or two, if that; and few understand Christ’s commands. They don’t know how to share the gospel or even why they should. Please pray for the believers on these islands. Ask the Holy Spirit to awaken the believers and start a revival. “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few” (Luke 10:2 ESV).
