Peoples of Shekhawati Region, Rajasthan, India

(shay-KAH-wuh-tee) – The Shekhawati region of the state of Rajasthan, India, takes its name from the Shekhawati language, one of several Rajasthani languages spoken in the area. The Shekhawati region has a population of 3.6 million people, including three unengaged, unreached people groups, and comprises three districts: Churu, Jhunjhunu, and Sikar. This region is located in the Thar Desert and is famous for historic, colorful “havelis,” or old mansions with intricate carvings and paintings. Only 0.08% of the population is Christian; however, there has been a significant gospel advance in Sikar district in recent years. Please pray for the salvation of the peoples of the Shekhawati region.
