Peoples of the Islands of Lake Victoria, East Africa

“Ugandans living in island villages on Lake Victoria support their families through simple commerce aimed at those living on and visiting the islands, by farming, and through fishing. Our Islands Team supports the efforts of farming by providing training to islanders twice a year. We use a popular program that teaches farmers how to increase their yields and grow their faith by acknowledging God’s sufficiency as the Master Farmer. The program is aimed at breaking the yoke of sin and poverty and models techniques of gardening in undisturbed and fertile areas in nature, rather than using conventional farming methods. The program also emphasizes that the earth belongs to God and farmers are stewards responsible for cultivating and protecting it, not destroying its fruitfulness. Give thanks to God that a recent training on Sigulu Island saw 118 farmers give their hearts to Jesus because of the teaching! Pray for their discipleship and spiritual growth as these farmers cultivate the land with precision and care and recognize that their farming is an act of worship. Pray for the hearts of our team as we continue to faithfully impart spiritual truths on the islands of Sigulu and Buvuma.”
