Pastor Ogutu is a pastor of Butanira Baptist Church, a new church plant in a Sigulu Island village. The church began in December 2024 with four people. In January, Pastor Ogutu expressed discouragement about the church having only four members. He questioned why others were not interested in coming to the new church. This was a great opportunity to discuss Matthew 28:18-20 (ESV) and the mandate for the church to engage in going–“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations” (verse 19)–and also in making disciples, baptizing new believers, and teaching them to obey Scripture. The pastor was encouraged to submit to the authority of the Great Commission by going and telling his community about Jesus Christ and His gift of salvation to the world. Pastor Ogutu and the congregation prayed and obeyed the Scripture. In less than a month, Butanira Baptist Church saw a 400% increase in attendance and membership. Praise the Lord! Pray for the 20 members of the church and for their obedience and faithfulness in taking the gospel to the world.
