“This is Coco,” writes missionary Sonya Herron. “She doesn’t know it, but she is an evangelism facilitator. She is a 2-year-old white Maltese, a breed that’s uncommon to most Ugandans. She is friendly, playful, and has never met a stranger. Since I began walking with Coco, my spiritual conversations have increased. Today, I met Stella, who is Karamojong (pronounced CARE-ah-muh-jong). As we walked along, we talked about life, church, and how a relationship with Jesus is the deepest need of every person. Even people on the backs of Bodas (motorcycle taxis) wave at me — not because of me, but because Coco has opened doors and made me more approachable. Soon, I will begin a Bible study with five girls in the hotel training school behind our house. Coco drew them to me during a walk. Our conversation began with the dog but quickly led to a discussion about the girls’ search for mangos and pumpkin leaves. The girls were physically hungry. We then had a deeper talk about spiritual hunger that can only be filled through Jesus Christ. Pray for an openness in the hearts of Ugandans to hear about Jesus because of a little dog and my obedience to tell.”
