(uh-SOM) – The state of Assam, India, has a population of over 36 million. It’s said that 3.47% are believers, but in reality, it may be below that figure. The two predominant religions are Hinduism (61.47%) and Islam (34.22%). The mindset of young people is that they’re more open-minded because they have a cosmopolitan culture due to sharing borders with China, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Myanmar and their physical facial features are attributed to Mongolian migration. They have a very pronounced Asian appearance, so they’re discriminated against by the rest of India, as they’re not recognized as appearing “typically Indian.” A large part of the population live in rural areas. Currently, there are around 45,000 churches planted since 1845; supposedly, 250 churches have been planted per year up to date. But how many of those churches are committed to evangelizing, discipling, and multiplying disciples? The truth is that most churches there, if not all, continue waiting for foreign aid to build more temples and acquire land. The churches in Assam today are deeply affected by materialistic philosophies and are busy with weekly, monthly, and yearly activities, and very little with the true study of the Word of God. Pray for the salvation of the peoples of Assam.
