Recently, a new follower of Christ named Abdullah sat down to read the Word with a few other believers. He asked them how he should celebrate Christian holidays such as Christmas or Easter. This year will be the first time that he will be celebrating as a new brother in Christ. He was curious as to what these new holidays would look like for him. In his previous faith, many things were prescribed and dictated regarding the observation of religious holidays. He wondered what was required of him to properly celebrate and worship as a Christ follower, so he asked, “How can I prepare myself for this Christmas or Easter”? The other brothers started to explain the freedom that is found in King Jesus. Jesus allows His followers to be creative in the traditions that they may or may not keep during the holiday seasons, but the thing that underlies it all is the heart of worship for the King. “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior” (Luke 1:46-47 ESV). Pray that Abdullah will continue to find great freedom in worshiping Christ!
