(suh-RARE) – “When my family arrived in Senegal in 2021,” a worker writes, “there was only one ordained Senegalese Baptist pastor. The other Baptist pastors were from other countries such as Togo and Cameroon, where there is a much higher percentage of evangelical Christians. With the small number of Senegalese believers and leaders, the common sentiment is that ‘Christianity is for them, not for us.’ On July 11, after much training, a new Senegalese pastor will be ordained in our city. The pastorship of the church will pass from a Cameroonian to a Senegalese. Without official ordination, in this culture, a church leader has no credibility. Give thanks to the Lord for the hard work of Senegal’s Baptist Association in selecting and training new leaders! Pray for the Holy Spirit to continue to move in this country that is 95% Muslim and only 0.2% evangelical Christian.”
