(SHE-uh) – In John 21, you can read about Jesus breaking bread and having a simple breakfast with His beloved disciples after His resurrection. He took the time to care for their physical needs while challenging Peter to feed His sheep. Bread is a very important part of life in the Arab world. In Arabic, the word “bread” has many names, one of which means “life.” How fitting it is that Jesus is described as the Bread of Life! Just like Iraqi Shia crave bread daily to meet their physical needs, pray that they will crave the One who can truly satisfy, Jesus. As Iraqis have just finished feasting with loved ones during the holiday of Eid al-Fitr, which is celebrated after completing a month of fasting during Ramadan, pray that the Holy Spirit will put a longing in their hearts to have a real and lasting relationship with God that can be found through Jesus. Pray that they will taste the goodness of the Lord and that entire families will come to faith. Ask God to raise up people like Peter who love Him, follow Him, and are committed to bringing the good news to their own people, thus “feeding the sheep.”
