Shia of Iraq and Beyond

(SHE-uh) – If a woman were to visit a shopping mall in Iraq and enter the ladies’ restroom, she would see a frenzy of young women dousing themselves in perfume, applying loads of makeup, and changing into less conservative clothing than would normally be allowed. Surprisingly, the majority of women in Iraq desire personal beauty above all else. Nose jobs, fillers, and more are extremely common because women know that men do not marry for personality, only perceived beauty. Women also wear their nose braces after surgery long after they are needed in order to show off the money they were able to spend to get such a desired procedure done. Unfortunately, living in this world of hyper-beauty has many negative effects: jealousy, depression, and even suicide. These women are seeking a love that will fill the deep hole in their hearts. Pray for Iraqi Shia to know their Creator God who intricately knit them in their mothers’ womb, who made them in His image, and who loves them simply for who He made them to be. Pray for Iraqi Shia women to encounter Christ in a radical way.
