South Asian Unengaged Peoples

The Rajannalu are an unengaged, unreached people group numbering 2,600 who practice Hinduism. They are primarily a Telugu-speaking people living in the Karimnagar district in the state of Telangana, India. The Telegu word “Rajannalu” means “Royal People.” They are called Rajannalu because they would traditionally roam around the country, telling the story of their deity, Raja Rajeswarudu. Their traditional occupation has been begging in the name of their deity while moving from place to place, but their jobs have shifted now to the cattle trade and women selling fruits and vegetables. Because they no longer continue their traditional profession related to their namesake, they now prefer to call themselves “Golla,” meaning “Shepherd.” As a group named “Royal People,” please pray that 1 Peter 2:9 (ESV) will become true of the Rajannalu: “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” Ask that they will become children of the true King and called into His light. Pray that believers among them and churches around them will proclaim the excellencies of Christ to the Rajannalu people.
