Tribal Peoples of Nepal

The Yakha (pronounced YAH-kah) people of Nepal are a small ethnic group residing in the eastern part of the country. With a population of approximately 21,500, they are primarily subsistence farmers, relying on the land for their livelihood. They have a rich cultural heritage, with their own distinct language and traditional practices. The Yakha have limited access to the gospel, and many still practice their traditional animistic beliefs. Workers write: “Please pray that the Yakha will have opportunities to hear and respond to the message of salvation, and ask that their hearts will be open to the love and redemption of Christ. As they come to know and follow Jesus, pray that they will be empowered to reach other people groups in Nepal and beyond. It’s our desire to see the Yakha become a sending people, using their unique cultural perspective and experiences to share the gospel with those who have never heard. Ask God to raise up Yakha believers who are passionate about cross-cultural ministry and eager to take the gospel to unreached people groups in Nepal. May the Yakha be a blessing to other peoples, and may their obedience to the Great Commission bring joy and glory to God.”
