(tee-more LESS-tay) – Calvary Church is the only Protestant church in a Catholic-majority area where the Kairui-Midik live. The majority religion of Timor-Leste is Catholicism, and the surrounding community was not welcoming to the local church or to Indonesian disciple-makers who entered that Baucau province where the Kairui-Midik live. Calvary Church welcomed the disciple-makers, offering them food and a place to stay, but when word got out that these disciple-makers were sharing the gospel and praying for the sick, they were told they needed to report to the police station. Travelers usually need to report to the village head (who had already welcomed these disciple-makers) or the police station upon entering a village, so that their safety can be managed, but these disciple-makers were asked what they were doing, who sent them, where was their letter of recommendation, etc. When the police asked, “If bad things happen to you here, who is going to be responsible for you?” They responded, “God will take care of us!” When they left the police station, a church member called them, asking, “Did they beat you?” Please pray for the members of Calvary Church to be strengthened through the Word, and to continue living as ambassadors of Christ in a difficult area. Pray that their love and good deeds will draw others to true faith in Christ, so that many Kairui-Midik will worship the Father in spirit and in truth.
