On Wednesday, June 24, Venezuela was struck by two major earthquakes measuring 7.1 and 7.5. These earthquakes caused major damage to and collapse of buildings in La Guaira state, near Caracas, and knocked out much of the communications systems. Over 900 people have been confirmed deceased, thousands have been injured, and over 25,000 are missing at this time. Send Relief is in communication with the Venezuelan Baptist Convention and will continue to support rescue efforts and develop a long-term response. Please be in prayer for rescue workers from Venezuela and from other countries who have arrived to assist in locating entrapped or missing persons. Pray for families as they await news of their relatives or are displaced from their homes due to the widespread devastation. Pray for our Venezuelan Baptist Convention partners as they minister to both the physical and spiritual needs of those affected, and pray for many to come to saving faith through this tragedy. Lastly, pray for medical centers that were already lacking supplies to be able to assist and care for the injured in adequate ways.
