The Lunar New Year is the most significant festival throughout the entire country of Vietnam. The Lunar New Year is called Tet in Vietnam. During this time, families will often travel to their hometowns and reunite to celebrate and honor their ancestors through practices like burning incense, praying to ancestors, offering food, and maintaining the family altar. It is said that to be Vietnamese, one must follow the traditions of ancestor worship. For many in Vietnam, this will be their first Lunar New Year celebration with their families after having decided to follow Jesus. Pray for these new believers, that they may be strengthened to stand firm in the faith and to worship only the One who is worthy of all glory and honor and praise, Jesus Christ. Pray that, as they live out their faith, their family members will see a difference in them and be drawn to the truth of Christ. This can often be a difficult time of persecution or loneliness for new believers. Pray for understanding between traditional families and the new believers so that persecution doesn’t arise.
