Archery

Mongolians have a rich legacy of using archery for sport and hunting that pre-dates Genghis Khan. The Mongol bow has a unique design and is made of wood (usually birch), animal horn and sinews. Archers use a characteristic grip to hold the arrow using only the thumb. For archery competitions teams of 10 archers with four arrows each, compete to hit 33 different targets, called “surs,” positioned 75 meters away for men, and 65 meters for women.
