A sculpture illustrating a story about Saint Simon the Tanner on display in the Cave Church of the Zabbaleen in Cairo, Egypt. Not to be confused with Simon the Tanner in the New Testament, this man lived in 10th century Egypt and is famous for his involvement in the purported miraculous moving of Mount Mokattam. In this sculpture he is shown brandishing a needle just before gouging his eye out since the woman before him caused him to lust in his heart.
