Easter Sunday is about Jesus’ death and resurrection, but in the Catholic faith, Mary is the reason for the celebration. According to Catholic Church doctrine, Mary is venerated because she is the one who made Jesus’ death on the Cross possible, through her immaculate conception and her agreeing to bare Jesus. While Jesus’ death on the Cross paid for Christians’ sins, Mary is the chief advocate and pathway to Christ as the conduit for grace to the world. Intercession is something that may be done by all the heavenly saints, but Mary is seen as having the greatest intercessory power. On this day the entire Roman Catholic faith focuses on the Easter Sunday Mass on St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican City in Rome, Italy.
