A small boy sleeps on his father’s lap as they wait for the exact moment they can break the day’s fast. Every day for a month, Muslims around the world fast from food and liquids during daylight hours. Signaled by a public call to prayer at that day’s pre-calculated time, worshippers eat and drink for the first time since their pre-dawn meal. After eating light refreshments of snacks and drinks, they will join together for communal prayers, before returning to eat their main meal together.
