Tribal Bible College
Project Overview
The Bicol region in the Philippines is home to a collection of related tribal groups, the “A” tribes. Praise God that in partnership with IMB, two church networks of different tribal groups, the “B” and “M” tribes, have sent missionaries to reach the “A” tribes, and the church is growing in some of these groups. Now the church leaders from these Bicol churches have a vision to establish a Bible College to train up leaders to continue reaching the rest of the people groups that are still unreached.
In 2020, the Bible College opened, with 18 people completing the first semester. This enrollment is much higher than anticipated, so the school has already outgrown the building! Plus, there is no place for farming on this space, which the students need to support themselves. In partnership with the tribes, your gift will build the Bible College from the ground up: buying the land, building classrooms, dorms and teacher housing, and developing the curriculum. By God’s provision, a perfect piece of land has been found that meets all the requirements for a Bible College, with space for farming to make it self-sustaining. The land has an accessible road, a year-round potable water source, flat areas for buildings, and agriculture-ready fields. (A coconut plantation is on the property now.)
The plan is first to buy the land and put up some temporary living quarters so that the school can move to this location; then planting can begin. Next, we will build a dorm, classroom, and teacher apartments. The “M” tribe from another island has committed to sending and supporting four Bible teachers for the school. The “B” tribe will generously host another school semester in their building until the new school is established. The IMB team will provide rice until the first harvest and print the curricula.
The believers from the “A” tribes are eager to build their Bible knowledge, learn to plant healthy multiplying churches and develop farming skills so they can be self-supporting as they start new churches among their own people. Give today to support their vision of equipping the next generation of missionaries and pastors to take the gospel to the remaining unreached people groups in this area!
