Minh Ha Nguyen Fund: Innovation through Research
Project Overview
The International Mission Board is honored to establish the Minh Ha Nguyen Fund for Innovation through Research, celebrating the life and legacy of a man whose work transformed how we see and support ethnic churches.
Minh Ha Nguyen (1967–2024) escaped Vietnam as a child refugee and became a leading voice in Southern Baptist ethnic research. His own journey gave him a deep sensitivity to the realities faced by migrant and refugee communities—and a passion to help churches see them not as margins but as mission.
As president of the Ethnic Research Network, Minh Ha was instrumental in launching BaptistResearch.com and elevating the voices of ethnic congregations across the SBC. His 2024 report to the SBC Annual Meeting revealed that nearly a quarter of all Southern Baptist churches are ethnically or racially diverse, with nearly 100 languages spoken across congregations each week.
Minh Ha’s research didn’t just inform—it inspired. He gave pastors and churches tools to understand their neighbors better and honor the gospel’s call to every nation and tongue.
Through this fund, we continue Minh Ha’s work: advancing innovation through research that reflects the beauty and diversity of the body of Christ.
