The Memorial to the Martyrs of the Deportation and the Resistance is a memorial to the 200,000 people deported from France to Nazi concentration camps during World War II. It sits on the Seine river in downtown Paris behind Notre-Dame. Not all who were deported were Jews — some were French citizens who opposed Hitler. IMB Photo

The Gokstad ship rests in the Viking Ship Museum in Oslo, Norway. This ship was built shortly before 900 A.D. and was used as a burial ship. The ship was discovered under a burial mound in Sandefjord, Norway, and was excavated in 1880.

The Mevlâna Museum and mosque in Konya, Turkey. The museum is dedicated to Jalal al-Din Muhammad Rumi, more commonly Rumi, who was a poet and Sufi mystic. Konya is the birthday place of Sufism and the whirling dervishes. In 1273, followers of the recently deceased Rumi established the Sufi order of the Whirling Dervishes in the city of Konya.
