Japan is proud of its baseball hero, Shohei Ohtani. Thousands in Japan follow his every move. On March 11, the Los Angeles Dodgers star took a moment to honor the lives of those lost in a devastating earthquake that took place 14 years ago. On that day, a 9.0 magnitude earthquake hit the eastern coast of the main island of Japan, resulting in a monumental tsunami that devastated many coastal towns, killing around 20,000 people and displacing many more. Japan had not suffered such a massive loss of lives since the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. This region of Japan is near and dear to Ohtani because he grew up in one of the hardest hit areas of Iwate Prefecture. He was a young teenager growing up with the dream of becoming a professional baseball player then. The entire region is still in the process of recovering, and things are still not the way they once were. Continue to pray for the healing of this nation. So many need the heart care and salvation that only Jesus can provide.
