Soviet Peoples in Istanbul, Turkey

Thank you for your ongoing prayers for Turkmen believers in Istanbul who are being tempted to pay bribes in order to speed up the passport renewal process. In July, you learned that Charlie had submitted and received his passport without paying a bribe. Charlie’s faithful act has given other Turkmen believers the courage to do the same! A year ago, a local leader among the Turkmen in Istanbul told believers that it was not possible to get a passport in Turkmenistan without paying a bribe. “You don’t understand our culture,” he said. “Paying bribes is the only way to get things done.” Now, that same leader is counseling others to submit their documents without bribes. Praise the Lord! Pray that the believing Turkmen in Istanbul will continue to grow in their faith. May they see insurmountable tasks as possible with God, for “with God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26 ESV). Pray that the Turkmens’ faith will grow through repeated small acts of obedience.
