Caroline Jones, an International Mission Board missionary emeritus who shared the gospel in Chile, died Nov. 27, 2025. She was 70.
Caroline was born Feb. 12, 1955, in Mt. Olive, North Carolina, to the late Uriah Alonzo McManus and Elizabeth Thomas McManus. She received the Bachelor of Science from Troy (Alabama) State University and attended Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Wake Forest, North Carolina.
After two years working in a summer position at a camp for the North Carolina Woman’s Missionary Union, Caroline joined the North Carolina WMU staff full time. During this period, she met Archie Jones, who worked with the North Carolina Brotherhood Department. Caroline and Archie were married on Oct. 4, 1980.
While seeking missionary appointment, Caroline wrote, “We are quite sure that the Lord designed us for each other and more importantly, for a specific task that He will show us. It is in search of that task that we have come to the point of seeking appointment in Chile. … Having heard His call and felt His touch, I am seeking to find His specific purpose for my life, for our marriage and for our combined abilities.”
In 1981, the International Mission Board appointed Archie and Caroline missionaries to Chile, where they served for several decades.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Archie Valejo Jones Sr.; their children, Gwendolyn J. Angell (Russell), Archie Valejo Jones Jr. (Teresa), Rev. John D. Jones (Patricia) and Elizabeth Ruth Thomas (Nick); 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Dec. 4 at Buies Creek First Baptist Church in North Carolina.
