At a mosque in Kazan, a religious teacher leads a prayer for a Tatar couple and their infant child. After the fall of communism, there has been a resurgence in Islam among Tatars. New mosques have been built throughout the region over the last 10 years. Kazan is the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, a federal subject of Russia.
