College-Aged Missionary Kids’ Thanksgiving Retreat

Sponsor care packages for college-aged Missionary Kids attending a retreat over Thanksgiving break

When Missionary Kids (MKs) begin college in the U.S., often their families are still on the mission field. That can make Thanksgiving quite lonely. Going home for the holidays, like most students do, can be too expensive and time-consuming when home is on the other side of the world.

For the first time in more than 20 years, the IMB is hosting a Thanksgiving retreat to provide MKs with a place — to reconnect with other MKs, grow spiritually, worship, reflect on their time since back in the U.S., have fun, and enjoy a Thanksgiving meal together.

Your gift to sponsor an MK Care Package is one small way to help lift an MK’s spirits at a time when they are missing their family and feeling lonely. This token of love will show them you are praying and caring for them.

Each care package includes an IMB backpack and tumbler, several treats, a few self-care items, retreat items, and a special message for them. The suggested gift amount is $50, which covers a care package for one MK college student, but any amount you give will bless and encourage the college MKs this Thanksgiving!

  • “I just wanted to thank you for a very special weekend. It was the happiest time I’ve had since leaving home. I grew in so many ways – spiritually I renewed that special peace with God – mentally and emotionally – well – I realized that all that happiness I had thought I had found was just superficial, that it wasn’t really there.”
  • “Thank you very much for your help and let me express my thanks again for a truly fabulous MK Retreat. I appreciate so much what the Board is doing for us MKs such as the retreat, Margaret Fund, and just having someone here in the States we can call on for help if necessary.”
  • “I guess MKs never realize they have so much in common with each other until they see each other outside their own country. It was comforting to me and all the others to find out that other MK’s have and understand my problems in adjusting in the States. It’s so nice to be able to rap with other MKs and be able to identify so well with them. Like everyone else, I though the only bad thing about the weekend was that it had to end.”
  • “It was great to see so many people who I hadn’t seen in such a long time and to meet new kids. It’s good to know that at least 96 other people are in the same boat with me.”
