About This Project
In Acts chapter sixteen, Paul saw a vision that implored, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” Paul and his companions concluded that God had called them to preach the gospel in Macedonia, and they immediately sought to fulfill that calling. Paul was obedient to the call, and, even though there was opposition, God richly blessed his ministry.
There are times in God’s plan when we should move quickly to enter the land to which we have been called. Now is the time of unprecedented opportunity to share the gospel with the unreached around the world, and the Macedonia Project provides an avenue for a unique group of candidates to immediately deploy to the mission field. These candidates are prepared to go except for the necessary theological education. Your gift to the program will allow them to get a solid theological foundation while at the same time gain valuable field experience.
Why direct giving matters
Giving directly to a missionary team helps fund the specific, on-the-ground needs your missionaries care deeply about—needs that aren't covered by CP and LMCO alone.
Thank you so much for your generosity to this ministry and those God calls to reach the nations for Christ. Your prayers and sacrificial giving provide scholarships for those willing to serve overseas and prepared to go except for the necessary theological education. The Macedonian Project offers the opportunity to get a solid theological foundation while at the same time gaining valuable field experience.
Opportunities multiplied. The Macedonian Project began in 2014. To date, we have had 261 students approved to study through this program, and 79 have been appointed and returned to the field as long-term missionaries. Students currently serve in all IMB affinities: the Americas, Asia and Pacific Rim, Central Asia, Europe, Northern Africa and the Middle East, South Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and among Deaf peoples.
Your generosity helps students like Natalie Lockwood serve in the Macedonian Project. Natalie shared these reflections about her experience: “The Macedonian Project has allowed me to follow God’s leading to serve overseas, while still learning and growing in biblical knowledge as I study under experienced professors from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. My years in the Macedonian Project have been rich—rich in local ministry and rich in going deep into the Scriptures. It has been a great experience, for which I am truly grateful.”
Thank you for your generosity and prayers. Your sacrificial gifts and intercession are transforming lives as we partner together to solve the world’s greatest problem, lostness.
The Macedonian Project enables missionary candidates without seminary education to get a solid theological foundation and gain valuable field experience at the same time. Through this approach, they receive theological training while, at the same time, being involved in IMB training in a specific area of the world, missionary-led mentoring, and service on the mission field. It also helps missionary candidates to obtain a debt-free seminary degree from a Southern Baptist seminary.
Over eight years, the Macedonian Project has enabled 226 missionaries to go to the mission field while working on their seminary degree. Of those in the program long enough to finish their degree, 50 have been appointed as long-term missionaries. Without any student debt, all 50 could go to the field without any delay.
Testimonies from Macedonia Missionaries:
Being current seminary students actually opened the door to a gospel conversation with a couple in our people group. When they learned that we were students in seminary, the man immediately began firing questions at us, wanting to know more. These questions easily led to the gospel. It was wonderful!

I found studying my Evangelism course and Cross-cultural Church Planting from the field very fulfilling. I learned first-hand how sharing behind closed doors is the most effective way. I was sharing with one of my friends in a café, and he was so distracted by potential onlookers that I changed the subject. Sharing with a different friend in his home was a great experience. He was focused. Though he wasn’t ready to respond, at least he was open to hearing. We have learned that the gospel has an uphill climb with most Muslims, but this is the work we are called to, and ultimately, it’s the work of the Holy Spirit. We have learned that we must be culturally sensitive and faithful. We could have heard this taught in a classroom but experiencing it on the mission field has heightened our awareness and improved our ability to minister to Muslims tremendously.

I have grown in Christlikeness and ministry preparedness through my seminary studies. I have grown in my understanding of and hunger for the Word, and I have been able to apply what I am learning to real-time situations in ministry.

The summer I took my EV class, the Lord also brought a local friend into my life who did not have a relationship with Jesus. Through new tools I was learning, I shared the gospel with this friend throughout the summer. Although she did not come to believe in Christ, I am thankful God used me to plant and water gospel seeds. I am grateful for the accountability and new tools that the EV class provided me that summer. Additionally, my Theology and Baptist History classes have challenged me to go deeper in my understanding of why I believe things I do. It has deepened my head and heart knowledge of God.

Thank you for your faithful support of the Macedonian Project. Many Southern Baptist missionaries can go to the mission field more quickly because of your partnership. God bless you as you hold the ropes for your Southern Baptist missionaries through prayer and generous giving.
In the next five years, a globalization goal of all IMB workers is to mobilize 500 local believers to become global missionary partners serving on IMB teams.
