About This Project
In Birmingham, the second-largest city in the United Kingdom, evangelical Christians make up less than 1% of the population. You can assist long-term workers in hosting a ministry center to reach Nechells, a diverse community in Birmingham that has no evangelical church and limited gospel witness.
Your gift will support the Bloomsbury Hope Centre, a community center that hosts clubs and outreach for men, women, and children as well as discipleship groups for Christians from around the world.
Ministries at the center include:
Homework clubs
Help offer tutoring children and youth with schoolwork. Students who attend also learn about the Christian faith through a youth club, a holiday club (similar to VBS) and other regular community gatherings.
Bible studies
Share Scripture with women who gather regularly for fellowship. Long-term workers share Bible stories that show how God is powerful and loving and can meet them in their every need and circumstance. The women will learn to share these Bible stories with others in their realm of influence.
Citizenship classes
Help provide classes that show men in the community how to navigate the challenging paths of becoming good citizens in the UK. They will also learn how Christian faith offers them eternal hope and ways to pass on their faith to others.
Discipleship and training events for all ages.
A place of worship
Offer a safe place to worship for a small, multiethnic gathering of Christians who already gather regularly. With your financial and prayer support, this small, faithful gathering will grow into a viable church, and the kingdom of God will take root and expand into the community.
Please prayerfully consider a gift to Bloomsbury Hope Centre in Birmingham, UK. God is moving here, and your partnership and prayers are critical for the kingdom of God to flourish among them.
Why direct giving matters
Giving directly to a missionary team helps fund the specific, on-the-ground needs your missionaries care deeply about—needs that aren't covered by CP and LMCO alone.
Kids’ Bible Club was a natural outgrowth of the Homework Club at the Hope Center. Your gifts to this ministry help meet needs and share the gospel here.
Each week, families come to learn Bible stories, ask questions, and explore Christianity, which many of them have never seen someone practice.
“I am learning from my kids what the Bible says,” one mom shared.
As we reach out to those in our neighborhood, we find that God is bringing the nations to us. Families in our area have extended families in Eritrea, Somalia, Sri Lanka, and beyond. What a joy to see God work in these families!
University students from around the globe also live in Birmingham. Because of your generosity, we evangelize and disciple them during their college years. Then, they return home, and God-sized multiplication happens.
Reaching the lost in our community is the reason our team is here. Your sacrificial giving and steadfast prayers encourage and undergird our team and this ministry.
Please join us in prayer:
Praise the Lord for the families hearing the gospel through the Hope Center. Ask Him to bring in those searching for hope, so they find the love Christ offers.Thank you for partnering with us to reach this community with the love and hope Christ offers. We are seeing God transform lives!
Thank you so much for your generosity to this ministry and the British people God calls us to reach with the gospel. Your prayers and sacrificial giving support the Hope Centre, a community center that hosts clubs and outreach for men, women, and children, as well as discipleship groups for Christians from around the world.
Opportunities abound. The Hope Centre actively engages our ethnically diverse community through various initiatives and activities. We aim to spread hope and the good news to spiritually lost people searching for meaning in their lives. We have connected with many through regular English classes, homework clubs, women’s coffee mornings, young adult Bible studies, community gatherings, holiday (school break) clubs, and more, providing them with a sense of belonging and purpose.
Whiteboards open gospel discussions. One of our successful outreach strategies has been using a dry-erase board at two nearby universities. This simple yet effective tool allows us to engage students and share the message of hope. We are thrilled three university students have come to faith in the past year as a result of God’s work through this ministry. This strategy is a testament to the power of the gospel and the impact it can have on individuals’ lives.
Investments yield gospel fruit. In addition to reaching the lost, we are committed to discipling new believers. Over the past year, five believers have been baptized and are actively involved in regular Bible studies and training in evangelism. Providing ongoing support and guidance to new believers as they navigate their faith journey is essential to making Christ known in this city, where evangelical Christians comprise less than 1% of the population.
We are incredibly grateful for the trust we have gained within our community. Many people come to the Hope Centre seeking encouragement and hope, and we are honored to provide them with a safe and welcoming environment. Through our various programs and activities, we have built relationships and supported those in need.
Please join us in prayer.
Pray for the continued impact of our outreach programs, such as the English classes, homework clubs, and women’s coffee mornings. Pray these initiatives attract individuals searching for hope and that they will encounter the love of Christ through our efforts.Thank you for your generosity and prayers. Your sacrificial gifts and intercession are truly transforming lives as we partner together to solve the world’s greatest problem, lostness.
In the next five years, a globalization goal of all IMB workers is to mobilize 500 local believers to become global missionary partners serving on IMB teams.
