(AH-far) – As a girl, Mayram dreamed of leaving her village to find meaningful work in a big city. Instead, her family arranged her marriage as a teen, and now she raises many children on her husband’s meager salary. She is hardworking, industrious, and determined to see her children succeed. Each morning, she sends her older children to school with backpacks, notebooks, snacks, and juice and then begins her housework with toddlers underfoot. In the evenings, she trains her children to join her in performing ritual Muslim prayers, and she sets out a talisman to protect the house while they sleep. Though she labors hardily as a wife and mother, Mayram is weary and wonders what her life could have been. Jesus knew Mayram’s struggles when He was on earth and said, “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly” (John 10:10 ESV). Pray for Mayram and other women like her. Ask that as they pray five times today (the Muslim requirement), they will lift their eyes to heaven, call upon the name of the Lord, and receive eternal life. Pray that they will know fulfillment and “life abundantly” by worshiping the Father.
