Amazigh of Libya

(am-uh-ZEEGH) –

If asked about your neighborhood, how would you describe it? Would you mention all the buildings (houses, apartments, skyscrapers, businesses) or maybe the lack thereof? Or would you talk about the people who live in or at least can regularly be found in it? One segment of the Amazigh population of Libya would likely tell you about the people around them. They would describe their familial and communal ties before referencing any physical features of the neighborhood. In describing the physical, you’d likely hear more from them about the purpose of the features than simply what those structures are called. Their homes are built into cliffs, but what you’d hear described is the security this provides from the elements as well as the outside influences they try so desperately to deter. Though seeking isolation from the changing world around them, they would still be incredibly hospitable. These Amazigh have taken refuge in the rock around them that predates all of them, but they don’t know the Rock who predates those cliffs. Please pray that the Father will use their resistance to change and their desire for refuge to lead them to find and take refuge in the Rock of salvation (Psalm 95:1).
