Big cities in China are famous for unique tourist activities, vibrant economies, diverse job opportunities, and good food. In a little more than 15 years, the former fishing village of Qingdao has transformed. Now offering new malls, a subway system, and a new airport, it is no wonder this city has hosted a global leadership conference. Local churches have thrived in this city; however, as one leader lamented, “Everyone is too busy to care much about church.” Another Christian shared, “Sometimes church feels more like a meeting for work rather than a day of rest.” Fellowships have hosted teenage retreats, and after one retreat, a leader said, “I was surprised at the willingness of students sharing openly about sex and transgender issues.” In addition to worldly pressures, the church also faces persecution. Please pray for believers to stand firmly on God’s Word and not waver when faced with peer pressure or the temptation to chase worldly pleasures.
