People of Incheon and Gyeonggi Provinces in Korea

(IN-chon; KYUNG-ghee) – South Koreans in the port city of Incheon and the Gyeonggi Province near the Seoul Metropolitan Area live within a highly urbanized, competitive, and media-saturated environment shaped by long work hours, intense educational pressure, and strong family expectations. Popular culture, especially K-pop and K-dramas, plays a significant role in shaping identity, values, and aspirations for younger generations, often emphasizing success, image, romance, and individual fulfillment. While Christianity once held a strong public and community presence in these regions, participation has declined sharply among young adults. Many have stepped away from organized religion, citing institutional fatigue, social mistrust, or a feeling that churches are disconnected from real life. As a result, a growing number of children are now being raised outside the church with little exposure to Christian teaching or community. This generational shift is clearly visible at the local level: many churches are shrinking, aging, consolidating, and a large number no longer have functioning children’s or youth programs. In numerous neighborhoods, church buildings remain, but weekly life inside them reflects a rapidly narrowing demographic rather than the surrounding community. Join us in asking God to turn the Land of the Morning Calm into the land of His Calm. Pray for the salvation of the people of the Incheon and Gyeonggi provinces.
