“German schools’ summer holidays are six weeks long. There are other breaks throughout the school year, but in summer, there are only these six weeks,” writes the Germany East Team. “It seems like everyone thinks they have to be out of town for the entire time. Camps, vacations, visits to relatives who live farther away — the city really slows down! But there are many in our city who can’t go anywhere. They might not be allowed to travel because of their legal status, they might not have funds for a trip, or their family might be too far away. Summer is a time to reach out to these people. We don’t need to slow down just because others do. Romans 12:11-12 (ESV) says: ‘Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.’ Relationships can begin in summer and then, what’s next? If we’ve been obedient and planted seeds, plowed the ground, and shared the gospel, then discipleship begins! Please pray as we follow up with those who heard the good news this summer. May their hearts be open to receiving Christ and growing in the knowledge of Him.”
