“Boda-boda riders provide the primary source of transportation throughout the country of Uganda. These are motorcycle taxi operators, and there’s an estimated total of 300,000 riders in the capital city of Kampala alone. They’re mostly men aged 25-45 who provide essential and quick transportation for people and goods in every sector of the country. The industry is poorly regulated, with many riders lacking valid licenses or national IDs and being associated with criminal activities. Despite these concerns, boda-boda riders are a major source of employment for males in Uganda. Missionaries James and Sonya Herron write: “We have focused on the boda-boda riders stationed near our home since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. We recently expanded our emphasis to include riders at four other stages within our community. We have hosted twice-monthly Bible studies for the past six months and have seen 31 of these men, many of whom were Muslims, make professions of faith in Jesus Christ. At our final Bible study, each man received a personal Bible. Please pray that they will carry the message of Christ and show the light of His promises to those they transport in Uganda. Pray for wisdom as we prepare the next study for these boda-boda riders.”
