Persian Peoples in Canada

The Persian peoples in Canada are people from Iran or Afghanistan who are living across Canada. They have moved there for various reasons and have lived in Canada for various amounts of time. While Persians can be found in many cities across Canada, the largest number live in the Greater Toronto area of Ontario, with significant populations in Vancouver, British Columbia, and Montreal, Quebec. Some have come as refugees, fleeing war or persecution, while others have immigrated for education or employment opportunities or to be near family. Many come, expecting the West to be a “promised land,” but often find roadblocks to creating a better life. Iranians speak Farsi or Persian and Afghans speak Dari, but the languages are very similar. In Canada, Persians must learn English or French to do well. Iranians and Afghans are Muslims by birth. There are many Iranian churches and discipleship groups throughout the diaspora, but the number of believing and gathering Afghans is much smaller. Compared to other Muslim groups, Iranians show a notable openness to the gospel. Afghans are more traditional and staunch in Islam and can be harder to reach with the gospel. Please pray for the salvation of Persian peoples in Canada.
