Sereer of Senegal and The Gambia

(suh-RARE) – In early June of this year, the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha, also called Tabaski, will be celebrated among the Muslims of Senegal. On this day, they remember the day that Abraham took his son to the mountain to sacrifice him to the Lord, as told in Genesis 22. Muslims believe that the son of promise was Ishmael, not Isaac. On this day, the head of the household will sacrifice a sheep, placing his hand on the animal as it is slaughtered, believing that the sacrifice of the sheep will cover the sins of his entire family. The family will then celebrate by feasting on the slaughtered sheep and sharing it with neighbors. Pray that local believers will be bold in sharing that Jesus is the true Tabaski Lamb, as only the blood of Jesus can remove our sins and bring eternal life.
