Rochelle made a point to visit Miriam after their previous conversation had raised concerns. During that earlier meeting, Miriam had shared that she was relying on tarot cards (used in fortune-telling) for guidance more than the Bible — a troubling shift for someone who had been a Christian for years. The visit began pleasantly, but Rochelle noticed a change whenever prayer or Scripture was mentioned. Miriam began to speak more quickly, as if she were uneasy with the topic, even fearful of verses about spiritual warfare. In the land of the desert Shia, demonic activity is widespread. Pray that believers will stand firm against the evil one’s influence and remain alert to the forces of darkness. Ask that Miriam will be set free from her desire to use tarot cards. “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12 ESV).
