Tea River People of South Asia

Not only does International Tea Day, which falls on May 21, offer an opportunity to celebrate the health benefits, cultural traditions, and economic importance of tea, but it can also prompt prayer for the Tea River People of South Asia. Approximately 14 million people make their home in the Tea River Area, which has about 150 tea gardens that employ roughly 600,000 people. Less than 0.006% of the majority Muslim and minority Hindu population of that area are evangelical believers. Ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into the harvest fields where “the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few” (Matthew 9:37-38 ESV). Pray that believers will boldly share the gospel with neighbors, family members, and friends. Pray for disciples who make disciples, and ask that believers will be grouped into healthy churches.
